The Collin County History Museum is proudly housed in McKinney’s historic 1911 Post Office, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Designed by architect J.H. Suttle, this distinctive Italianate-style building once served as an important center of communication and connection for the community. Today, it welcomes visitors to explore the people, places, and stories that shaped Collin County.
Built of limestone and distinguished by its arched three-bay entrance, wide overhanging eaves, and decorative brackets, the building is a remarkable example of early 20th-century government architecture. Many of its original architectural features—including its doors and windows—remain intact, preserving a tangible connection to its past. The building was deeded to Collin County in 1959 and became home to the museum in 1982.
Inside, visitors can discover thoughtfully curated exhibitions featuring historic artifacts, photographs, maps, documents, newspapers, and other treasures from our collections that tell the evolving story of Collin County and its communities.
More than a place to preserve the past, the museum is a place to connect history with the present. Through exhibitions, educational programs, research, and community events, we bring local stories to life and ensure they remain accessible and meaningful for generations to come.
